Is the car rental fee cheap?

The prices on ToCoo! website are the cheapest price for the car rental online booking in Japan for foreign guests.

How to calculate car rental fees?

Car rental fees are calculated automatically by hourly or daily.

Is there any additional charge?

An additional fee is applied to the below option.If customers book a car via ToCoo!, TAS(ToCoo! Additional Support) is mandatory to purchase for their booking. Also, if they have compensation coverage, it will be all covered in case of an accident.
Compensation Coverage
Compensation fees(voluntary)
Compensation coverage is voluntary participation. Usually, 50,000 yen to pay if customers have TAS only (it does not matter how your negligence causes to the accident). If customers have compensation coverage, the fee (50,000 yen) will be exempted.
T.A.S.(mandatory)
If customers book a car via ToCoo!, TAS(ToCoo! Additional Support) is mandatory to purchase for their booking. In case of an accident, N.O.C will be covered.(20,000~100,000 yen 0 yen) *If rental car company charged customers for N.O.C. at the outlet, please keep the payment receipt and contact ToCoo! for a reimbursement.
Option fees
Free options: ETC device/GPS(Japanese)Except for these options, it will cost for a fee.
Drop-off fees
If pickup and return outlet is a different location, drop-off fees will be required. The system will automatically show the amount of drop-off fee. *If it is in the same area, it will be free of charge.
Tax
A sales tax of 8% is included.

How much is the selling concession?

You will get a maximum 10% of the total fee(basic fee + option fee + compensation coverage fee).

How much is the price for customers?

The price for the customers can be decided by the distributors. Please note, the price can not be lower than ToCoo! price, also, ToCoo! and rental car companies will not provide inquiry on rental fees for customers.

Is there any charge for alteration/cancellation?

If you would like to make any alterations, please cancel your current reservation first, then make a new reservation with updated details. There will be no cancellation fees if the reservation is canceled within 24 hours after confirmed even within 7 days to your reserved date. Please see the below information on cancellation fee.
* Please note, even if you forget to cancel the proceedings from rental day up to 7 days before, a cancellation fee will be charged.
* Please note, a cancellation fee will be incurred if you double-book and forget to cancel.
* If malicious actions, distributor agreement will be terminated.

What is the cancellation fees in case of flight delay or cancel due to typhoon?

There will be no cancellation fees if it is canceled due to flight delay/cancellation or any cancellation by the public transportation system.

What is the latest deadline I can book a car?

ToCoo! system accept reservation 24/7, 365 days all year. As of December 2016, Nissan Rent a Car Orix Rent A Car TOYOTA Rent a Car Sky Rent A Car JR Hokkaido Rent a Car Honda Rent a Car Sapporo Nikku Rental Car Car rental Hokkaido OPEN Air Rental Cars ABC Rental Cars these companies are the target of the commission fee. However, other car rental companies are not covered by the commission fee, so please note, the latest reservation deadline might vary depending on rental car company. Please see below for deadline reservation time. If it is already passed the deadline, the rental car will not show up in the search result.

Do you have an outlet other than a nearby airport?

ToCoo! offers outlet nearby all 8 main international airports (New Chitose, Narita Airport, Haneda Airport, Chubu, Kansai, Itami,Kagoshima and Naha airport) and other 53 airports, main train stations, the total of 1528 rental car outlets are available.

How early can I book a car?

We can accept reservation for 185 days in advance.

Can I book multiple cars in one reservation?

We can only accept 1 car for each reservation. If booking multiple cars, please submit the application for each car.

How to find car availability?

In Japan, we have 67,000 cars available each day registered. When finding a car in the search result, you can book your desired car class. If it is sold out already, it will not show up in the search result.

How to confirm reservation details?

When the reservation is confirmed, we will send a confirmation mail to your registered e-mail address. You can see your reservation details from "View/Cancel a Reservation" page by entering your reservation number and password.

Car class

Can I request car model?

No, it is not possible to deliver the specific model, type, mileage, color, GPS type/age of the car, even being requested. Please note that all reservations are to be made according to the car class, not by car model. There is a case you have an upper-class car as an exceptional case. You can not change the provided car, even if you do not like it or it is too small for you.

What kind of car is available?

Mostly Japanese-made brands like Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi are available. Depending on the rental car company, car maker or model might vary. For car classes shown in the search result, it will be available for reservation.

Is there a manual transmission car?

Automatic transmission car only.

Is there non-smoking car?

When making a reservation, please select the option "Smoking" for a Non-smoking car. Please note, there might be possibility non-smoking car can not be provided, in this case, the deodorant spray will be used to clear the car.

Is multilingual GPS option available?

Multilingual voice GPS (English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese) or English voice GPS is available. Depending on rental car company different type might be provided. Please request it when making a reservation.

Do you have child seat?

When making a reservation, please book a suitable child seat for children. Baby seat(under 1-year-old), child seat(1~ 4 years old), junior seat(4~ 6 years old), please book a required number of seats for your group. *Installing safety seat by yourself will be necessary. If having issue installing, please ask rental car staff for assistance.

Do you have a car equipped with snow tire option?

From November to beginning of April, in the heavy snow area, snow tires will be equipped as standard equipment. In another area, if traveling to snowing area or mountain, please book a car from snow tires plan.

Are there ETC card rental services available?

ETC card rental services are available. It can be sent to customer's accommodation or selective airport post office in Japan. Please select desired pick-up location in the reservation form. When returning, please use provided prepaid return envelope and drop off at any post office in Japan to send back to ToCoo!.
[Important notice]
*For customers renting the ETC card, a deposit(15,000 yen) will be required.
*Deposit will be refunded after we receive the ETC card back and a toll fee charges from the highway provider, or in case of cancellation.
*Tolls will be settled within one week after you return the rental a car.
*Tolls will be settled by the credit card that you registered to our application reservation contact.
*We recommend distributors in advance to collect a deposit from customers.

Are there Wi-Fi router rental services available?

Wi-Fi router rental services are available. It can be sent to customer's hotel or selective airport post office in Japan. Please select desired pick-up location in the reservation form. When returning, please use provided prepaid return envelope and drop off at any post office or post it any mailbox in Japan to send back to ToCoo!.

Will there be a problem communicating with rental car staff?

When confirming rental car contract at rental car outlet, mostly communication can only be done in Japanese, English-speaking staff is mostly not available. If required, please considering having telephone translator support.

Is it possible to add option upon arrival?

Adding option upon arrival is not allowed(including winter option). Please be sure to book required option when making a reservation.

Drop off

Drop-off fees?

If your pickup and return outlet is different, a drop-off fee will be required. The amount of drop-off fee will be different depending on the car rental company. It will be calculated automatically by the reservation system.

Can I drop off a car to train stations or tourist facilities?

Can only return to rental car outlet. Can NOT return to other locations. If require drop off to another outlet, requesting during reservation is required. If returning to another outlet that is not scheduled on the reservation, it will be counted as stealing a ride. Also making alternation of returning outlet during the car rental period is not allowed.

To drive a car required document might vary depending on your nationality. Please note, if required document is not provided, the reservation will be canceled, and cancellation fees will be charged.

What can I drive on a standard car license?

Maximum 8 seated car can be rent and drive in Japan.

Age limitation?

At least 18 years old, for the beginning driver who obtained license less than a year can also rent a car.

About Payment

Payment Methods?

All rental car fees are charged in advance. It will be charged to the customer's registered credit card when the reservation is completed. Customers can just bring their confirmation mail and pick up the car directly at the outlet. You will not be charged a cancellation fee if you cancel your reservation at least 7 days ahead of time, also, if you cancel your booking less than 7 days, but at least 24 hours before your specified pickup time the charged amount will be returned to the registered credit card.From "Rate for General customers" including basic fees, compensation coverage fees, ToCoo! option fees and car rental fee will be charged to the registered credit card, and exclude commission fees 10%. That's how we pay the commission fee.

What credit cards can I use?

We accept both VISA and Master card, it can be either personal or corporate card.

Can I have a receipt?

If you wish, after completed process of payment application form, a receipt can be provided by E-mail in PDF format.

Using A Rental Car

What are the steps before picking up the car?

Here are the outline of steps before picking up the car.
  1. 1. Please confirm to have "International driver license" "Domestic driver license" and "Passport". If you do not have required documents, a rental car can not be rented.
  2. 2. Explain insurance and coverage details.
  3. 3. Sign the rental car contract.
  4. 4. Check rental car condition with rental car staff.

What if I can not arrive or return on time?

If you can not arrive or return to the rental car outlet on time, please contact the rental car outlet as soon as possible by telephone.

When returning a car, will there be any additional charges?

If returning according to the rental car period and a full tank of gasoline, there will be no additional charges. However, if extending the rental car period or gasoline is not refilled, an additional charge will be required. When returning the car, please check car condition with rental car staff as when picking up the car. If any damage to the rental car, paying N.O.C. fees to the rental car outlet will be required. For affiliated store's customers are including T.A.S., please contact ToCoo! afterward with N.O.C. receipt to have reimbursement.

If returning the car earlier than scheduled time, will there be a refund of the unused period?

If returning the car earlier, there will be no refund for the remaining time.

Can I extend the rental car period during my trip?

You cannot extend the car rental period during a trip. If you would like to extend, please contact the rental car outlet directly. Also, you need to make necessary payment when you return the car. Extending time will be calculated by rental car's normal rate.

What is airport transport service?

It is a service that you can pick up/return the car at the airport or taking transportation between airport and outlet. Transportation might vary depending on the airport. Please see the confirmation mail for more detailed information.

When pick up the car will it be a fully refilled tank?

Yes, it will be a full tank of gasoline.

Do I have to return the car with a full tank of gasoline?

Yes, it is an agreement to pick up with full tank gasoline car and return with a full tank.Please see here
When returning the car, please find a nearby gasoline station to refill the tank and present the gas receipt to the staff from the car rental outlet. If it is not fully refilled, gasoline fees will be calculated according to the driving distance.

What happens if accidently refilled diesel?

If refilled with incorrect gasoline (diesel or gasoline grade), and required repair fees, please first make required payment(repairing fee, tow truck fee) at the rental car outlet. Please keep all payment's receipt and contact ToCoo! afterward for reimbursement process.

What if I got ticketed due to illegal parking?

If you got a ticket due to illegal parking, please follow the steps to pay necessary fees.
In case of "Traffic Ticket" on your car window.
  1. 1) Please go to requested police station and make required process.
  2. 2) Make the necessary payment to requested financial institutions.
  3. 3) When returning the car, please show the documents of "Traffic ticket" and "Ticket payment receipt".

Can I pick up or return the car outside of business hours?

No, rental car pickup or return can only be within business hours.

Why are flight numbers required?

For smooth services, in case of flight delay or cancel. Rental car staff can check flight number and provide services according to most updated information. Also, it is required for rental car services in the airport.

If my flight numbers are not confirmed yet, what should I do?

Please inform us as soon as flight numbers are confirmed.

Can I have a pet in the car?

You cannot.

What should I be aware when returning the car?

Please be aware that there is no item left in the car. Rental car companies can keep missing items for 3 months only, there will be no compensation for missing items. Also, the rental car company cannot post missing items.

Insurance Coverage

What are the details of insurance coverage in case of an accident?

For safe and relaxing travel, rental car fees are including insurance. If exceeding coverage amount, customers will be required to pay for exceeding amount.

What should I do in case of an accident?

In case of an accident, please follow the below steps.
  1. 1. To avoid the further accident, please move your car to a safer location.
  2. 2. Help the injured (If required, please call 119)
  3. 3. Please report the accident to the police(call 110)
  4. 4. Confirm with the opponent.
  5. 5. Report the accident to your PICKUP rental car outlet.
*Please do not agree to the out-of-court settlement, insurance will not cover and you will be required to pay all charges.

Can I register multiple drivers?

Yes, please provide all driver's required documents when picking up a car. If a driver who has not registered in the outlet, uses the car and had an accident, car insurance will not cover the accident.

In case of an accident, how much will I require to pay?

If you have compensation coverage, it will be all covered in case of an accident. There will be no charges applicable for special agents and customers. If they do not have compensation coverage, the following charges will be required.
  • 1. Collision Compensation: 50,000 yen
  • 2. Vehicle Compensation: 50,000 yen - 100,000 yen
  • 3. Non-Operation Charge(NOC): 20,000 yen - 50,000 yen
* Maximum 200,000 yen payment might be required.

What to do when I had a rental car malfunction?

Please contact rental car company first. In case of losing car key, broken tire, out of gasoline, or require roadside support, please contact JAF(0570-00-8139). Please be sure to keep all payment's receipt and contact ToCoo! afterward for reimbursement.

Affiliate Registration

How to register for ToCoo! Affiliate?

Please see below for the distributor registration process.
  1. 1. You can apply from "Distributors Wanted" on ToCoo! online booking page.
  2. 2. Please complete all requirements "Company name(travel company name)", "A person in charge Name", "Position", "Country", "Address", "E-mail address", "Official web page URL", "Telephone number", "FAX number", "Travel agency registration number", and clicking submit you are agreeing to "ToCoo! Car Rental Agreement".
  3. 3. We will apply to the car rental company for approval after we receive the application.
  4. 4. The rental car company will notify us with an approval if there is any problem.
  5. 5. We will send Distributor ID for confirmation within 10business days after we receive approval from the car rental company.
  6. 6. The distributor can start the business.
